CleanTrade is the first-of-its-kind transaction marketplace designed specifically for the clean energy industry. It provides a digital, screen-based platform for buyers, sellers, and traders to execute transactions for Virtual Power Purchase Agreements (VPPAs), physical PPAs, and project-specific Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) with unprecedented price transparency and efficiency.
Historically, clean energy deals were negotiated through slow, opaque, manual processes like email-driven RFPs. CleanTrade modernizes this by moving to a screen-based marketplace. This shifts a process that typically took months into a parallel, digital workflow that can be completed in weeks or even days, while providing a "full view of the board" regarding market pricing.
CleanTrade serves the entire clean energy ecosystem, including:
Yes. CleanTrade operates as a Swap Execution Facility (SEF), registered with and governed by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). This ensures that the marketplace meets federal standards for integrity, fair dealing, and transparency.
The CleanTrade Rulebook is a comprehensive set of guidelines that governs all activity on the platform. It ensures market integrity and is regularly updated and filed with the CFTC to maintain regulatory compliance.
By operating under CFTC regulation and using standardized contracts, CleanTrade significantly reduces counterparty risk. The platform provides a structured environment where participants can trade with confidence, backed by automated compliance and post-trade performance monitoring.
The platform supports a variety of clean energy instruments, including:
CleanTrade and CleanSight are complementary. While CleanTrade facilitates the transaction, CleanSight provides the analytics. Users can leverage CleanSight to model project performance, forecast revenue, and monitor their operational portfolios, then use CleanTrade to execute hedges or new contracts based on those insights.
To join the CleanTrade marketplace, organizations must enter into a Participant Agreement and meet specific onboarding requirements. Please contact the Resurety team at [email protected] to begin the application process.
Trading hours are established in accordance with Resurety Markets’ formal notice to participants and the CFTC. Specific hours and the full fee schedule are available to registered participants via the Regulatory Resources page.
Clean energy is not traded on traditional energy platforms today because of the intermittent nature of generation. But the PPAs and VPPAs that govern the industry are dynamic financial contracts and volatility is valuable:
