Lee Taylor started REsurety to improve the profitability of renewable energy. While a student at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, Mr. Taylor led multi-disciplinary research quantifying the benefits of weather-risk hedging for US wind projects. Following the conclusion that the potential benefits of customized weather derivatives were significant and unrealized, Mr. Taylor founded REsurety to enable the wind industry to reap those benefits.
Mr. Taylor holds an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth where he was an Edward Tuck Scholar and the 2012 recipient of the Lt. Walter A. Jacobs Memorial Prize for intellectual leadership. He holds Bachelor's degrees in Economics and Biology from the University of Virginia, where he graduated with High Distinction.
Co-Founder & Director
Kenneth Westrick is a pioneer of renewable energy risk analytics. Before co-founding REsurety, he founded and led 3TIER as its CEO for 10 years, guiding the company's technical and strategic development.
Mr. Westrick has presented globally at hundreds of renewable energy, climate, and risk events over the past twenty years. A renowned authority on the intersection of atmospheric science and renewable energy, Mr. Westrick has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, CNN, The Financial Times, and Forbes.
VP, Commercial Operations
Adam Reeve is a mechanical engineer and data scientist with a strong interest in the rapidly evolving renewable energy landscape. Before joining the REsurety team, he worked for a proprietary trading firm specializing in quantitative analysis of energy markets. His deep experience in data-driven analysis, model building, risk assessment and data visualization support REsurety's analytical approach to quantifying and managing the weather-linked revenue risks of wind power projects.
Mr. Reeve holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and Political Science from Yale College, with a focus on energy and environmental studies. He graduated with distinction in both majors.
Christian Rivero is a renewable energy engineer with professional experience in wind, solar photo voltaic and solar thermal generation technologies. Before pursuing academic and professional opportunities in renewable energy in the U.S., he was a Product Specialist at Lenovo in Peru. Mr. Rivero's academic and professional experiences in energy systems modeling and technology infrastructure enable him to not only help drive the development of REsurety's analytical technologies, but to build and optimize the firm's IT hardware in support of REsurety's data-intensive approach to risk evaluation and mitigation.
Mr. Rivero holds a Master's degree in Energy Systems from Northeastern University and a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica in Lima, Peru.
Associate, Commercial Operations
Daniel Pollak is a wind energy data scientist and engineer with experience in wind resource assessment, boundary layer meteorology and met data processing. Before joining REsurety, he worked at an energy trading firm as a quantitative analyst focused in Natural Gas. Before that, he worked within the site assessment and layout group at DONG Energy as a part of his thesis with the European Wind Energy Masters Program.
Mr. Pollak holds dual Master’s of Science degrees in Wind Energy Engineering and Wind Physics from the Technical University of Denmark and the University of Oldenburg respectively. His Bachelor of Science degree is in Meteorology from Penn State.
Senior Research Scientist
Jennifer Newman is an atmospheric scientist with experience in boundary layer meteorology, remote sensing, machine learning, and wind resource assessment. Prior to joining REsurety, Dr. Newman completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory with a focus on improving turbulence estimates from Doppler wind lidars. As a research scientist at REsurety, she investigates new methods for estimating the risk of potential wind projects.
Dr. Newman holds Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Science from Cornell University where she graduated with distinction in research.
VP, Settlement Operations
Jeremy Traurig has 15+ years of wind energy experience ranging from operational performance improvements, energy assessments and wind resource modelling. Prior to joining the REsurety team, Mr. Traurig worked at First Wind improving performance and increasing availability of over 3 gigawatts of operating wind assets. This experience as well as his prior experience with wind resource modelling supports REsurety’s effort to continuously improve the Company’s analytical tools.
Mr. Traurig holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography from the University of Oklahoma where he began his career developing an empirical wind resource model to map the resource in the state.
Chief Technology Officer
Karl Critz is a software engineer with experience in simulation, modeling, machine vision, and data visualization. His work in renewables has integrated solar power with smart residential load sources and optimized generation strategies for high-penetration wind. As an experienced software architect, Karl ensures that REsurety's analytical infrastructure is functional, reliable, and scalable.
Mr. Critz holds a Masters of Science in Management and Engineering from MIT Sloan, where he received an NREL Innovative Research Analysis Award grant for wind integration research. Mr. Critz also holds a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from MIT.
VP, Finance & Operations
Kevin Krachman is a financial and business strategist with expertise in renewable energy project finance. Before joining the REsurety team, he served as the CFO of Sunwealth where he designed and launched an innovative funding mechanism for commercial solar projects. In his years at Analysis Group and Cornerstone Research, Mr. Krachman served as a consultant to Fortune 500 companies on issues related to litigation, mergers and acquisitions, and profit maximization.
Mr. Krachman is a CFA and CAIA charterholder, and he holds an MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia where he was the recipient of the Faculty Award for Academic Excellence. He also holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering degree from Duke University.
Michael Garrison is a Data Scientist with experience in energy forecasting, machine learning, and data visualization. Before joining the REsurety team, he worked as a Load Forecaster at Eversource Energy, building long-range forecasts of electric and gas customers, loads, and revenues. His background in cutting-edge machine learning techniques supports REsurety's effort to quantify the weather- and price-related revenue risks of wind power projects.
Mr. Garrison holds a Master's degree in Economics from Boston University and a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Writing from Ithaca College, where he graduated with honors.
Research Scientist, Power Markets
Leo Barlach is an engineer and researcher with experience in commodity markets. Prior to joining REsurety, Leo worked as a process engineer supporting large development projects in the Brazilian energy, mining, cement, and fertilizer industries. At REsurety, he is focused on development and continuous improvement of energy price prediction models, with a particular focus on weather-driven fluctuations.
Mr. Barlach holds a Master's of Science in Engineering Management degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a focus on energy systems and sustainability, and a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of São Paulo, in Brazil.
Software Quality Engineer
Omri Schwarz has a long career of software development, quality assurance, and full-stack software and hardware implementation in academic and commercial contexts. Prior to REsurety, Mr. Schwarz designed, developed and administered quality assurance processes at a quantitative hedge fund, operated Beowulf supercomputers at MIT, and developed software at Fraunhofer. At REsurety, Mr. Schwarz supports the developers by implementing and upgrading the QA process, putting stitches in time to save nine.
Mr. Schwarz has a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT.
Senior Analyst, Commercial Operations
Matthew Livingston is a meteorologist with experience in weather forecasting and data analysis. Before joining the REsurety team, Matt worked for Penn State University as a researcher responsible for collecting and analyzing data retrieved from hail storms to help aid in the prediction of large hail events.
Mr. Livingston holds a B.S. in Meteorology with a focus in Weather Risk Management from the Pennsylvania State University. In addition to his meteorology degree, he also has a minor in Energy, Business and Finance.
Sahar Shirani is a civil engineer with extensive background in data analysis and statistical model development. Prior to joining REsurety, she worked at a Boston-based startup focused on treating industrial water, where she conducted market analysis on commodities. At REsurety, she is building and continuously improving the data science platform that powers REsurety’s insights into the renewable energy markets.
Ms. Shirani holds a Master's of Science in Civil & Environmental Engineering degree from Northeastern University, and a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering degree from the Amirkabir Unviersity of Technology, in Iran.
Senior Analyst, Commercial Operations
William Harrop has experience on both the supply and demand sides of wholesale energy markets. Prior to joining REsurety, Mr. Harrop was employed at Invenergy, a utility-scale wind, solar, gas, and storage development firm where he was responsible for the preparation and delivery of request for proposal responses to utility and corporate customers across North America. Before that, he was a supply-side analyst at Altenex, a firm sourcing corporate renewable power purchase agreements.
Mr. Harrop holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and History from Tufts University where he graduated with honors. His studies focused on energy markets and financial risk management.
